2019 DAY 5: Striping, Landscaping, and Finished Court

The last day of camp focused on rewarding campers on their hard work throughout the week while also introducing them to two more fun and engaging professions in construction: striping and landscaping. Campers also got an opportunity to ask any unanswered questions to a panel of returning RangerACE Pros at lunch.

To prepare the court for striping, campers started off the morning by watching and assisting as GADCO returned for the final grading.

The final step to finish the basketball court was to stripe it. The campers had already done this virtually on CAD, and now Stripe-It-Up was here to help them translate the computer lines to the pavement. Campers got to assist with measuring and used spray cans to get spots that Stripe-It-Ups riding sprayer could not. Once everything looked pristine, campers headed inside to prepare questions for the lunch panel of RangerACE Pros.

We were fortunate enough to have a large number of RangerACE Pros return for lunch: Nathan Ziehr, Kenneth Popham, Landesign, and Garrett-Ihnen all returned to answer questions. Such a setting gave campers the opportunity to get more acquainted with what each of these Pros loved about their jobs, and the campers walked away with a better understanding of what the Pros did and why they chose to do it.

After the lunch panel, Clean Scapes arrived to work with the campers on landscaping the newly stripped courtyard. Campers headed out to the courtyard and spent the next hour and a half working hard to make the courtyard look nice. This work consisted of raking gravel, moving new benches, and planting trees around the courtyard.

To reward the campers for a day of hard work, RangerACE provided frozen treats and laid-back fun for the remaining hour of the day. Campers were free to play on the new basketball court that THEY had created, getting to reap the rewards for a job well done.
